Estimating workshop - Mr Johann Slabber
Johann is a Chartered (RICS & SACQSP) Quantity Surveyor who has gained experience working
client-side in a professional consulting capacity in both SA and the UK (1998 - 2006);
on private development projects in SA since 2006; and
in education since the start of 2008.
He has been fortunate to gain experience working in the retail, petroleum, commercial, residential, aviation and education sectors throughout his career. Specifically, his experience covers such areas as cost planning, procurement and financial contract management as well as project management. Client bodies in both the UK and SA include BAA plc, John Lewis, Imperial College, Shoprite and Engen Petroleum Ltd.
Workshop Outline
The main aim of the 'Estimating Workshop' to be presented at this year's conference is to provide candidate quantity surveyors with an overview of Construction Cost Estimating in preparation for their APC.
Content to be covered will include:
Reference to some of the content covered within the SACQSP's Professional Skills Module No. 6 entitled " Compile a Project Cost Information Database for Built Environment Projects";
Practical examples of the application of Construction Cost Estimating Methods used within the profession;
Practical examples of Project Cost Databases utilized within the profession and how these databases are linked to Construction Cost Estimating Methods; and finally, a
Review of the latest developments in Construction Cost Estimating brought on by the ever changing service delivery requirements of clients.
